TODAY’S VERSE: Matthew 14:17-20

We have here only five loaves of bread and two fish, they answered. Bring them here to me,” he said. And he directed the people to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people. They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over.

Jesus today taught the people from the Word of God. He took care of the spiritual hunger of the people before their physical hunger. In other words, he prioritized spiritual hunger above physical hunger. The reason why some Christians are unstable in their relationship with God is because they prioritize physical hunger against spiritual hunger. If we do not give attention to spiritual hunger, attachment to material things will become a lifestyle.
The project of feeding the poor should not be left for the government alone. Jesus after the multiplication, handed over the bread to the disciples to share. They were to become his hands to give food to the hungry. This same thing is expected of us. We may not have have the spiritual power to multiply bread like Jesus in order to feed the poor but if we bring the little we have and put them together, the poor will have more than enough to eat. That is one way we can replicate the miracle of Jesus…
